The beginning of a proper business plan is executive summary. Executive summary is mostly written at the end of the business plan, which highlights the contents of the whole business plan. It saves the reader’s time; as most readers don’t have enough time to read the whole business plan, they just look at the executive summary and get familiarized with what is written in the whole plan. Executive summary is the most common section of a business plan; it should be not more than a page or two.

An executive summary of your business plan must include a concise summary about: A description of your company including your products and/or services, mission statement, your business’s management, the market and your customer, marketing and sales strategy, your competitors, your business’s operations, and in the last, financial projections and plans.

Following are some of the tips of writing an executive summary for a business plan:

• Executive summary is the most important part of your business plan. The reader’s of business plan don’t have enough time to waste, so it is necessary that the executive summary of business plan must focus on providing a brief summary. Don’t add irrelevant material, otherwise readers will not be encouraged to read a full business plan.

• It is vital to keep the language of an executive summary strong and positive. Weak language will weaken the executive summary, which is the most important section of your business plan.

• The length of an executive summary will not exceed more than one or two pages.

• It is necessary that an executive summary of your business plan must be written that good that it grabs the reader’s attention and encourages him/her to read the full report. Put yourself in your reader’s place and check whether your executive summary encourages you to read the full report or not.

• Ask someone else to proofread the executive summary, so that they’ll remove all the errors of style, spelling, grammar and punctuation you have made while writing.

• An executive summary contains everything the business plan holds. So, it is necessary to target all the important points for having a successful executive summary. Above are some tips, which you must consider while writing an executive summary for a business plan.
